Gill Bowditch

I was born in Port Talbot in 1962, an Industrial Town in South Wales.

Having completed a B.A. Hons in Graphic Design in the 80's and a Postgraduate course in teaching I have taught Art and design to Secondary School level and adults covering GCSE and A level. Throughout this time I have continued to practise my own art. In order to develop and pursue my own painting I now teach part time.

My work is currently inspired by natural forms- exploring both colour and structure. I begin with close observation then develop these into more abstract renditions. Also I am exploring the relationship of number within nature e.g. the Fibonacci sequence. Another interest of mine is Spirituality an area shown in some of my compositions with a circle.

My paintings start with a chosen range of colours applied randomly to the base. I will use different materials to gain a variety of surface texture. When dry I use paint to pull together a composition. This may have been developed before the start of the painting or at this particular stage I will explore different possibilities with drawing.
I layer my work and will use different materials along the way.

A small element of my work show memories of my travel. Here I often put images drawn in situ or from photographs together in a composition to form a feel or memory of this visit. These are normally available as Giclee prints.
